Getting a little bored with
the same old, same old projects? Stretch your mind and your quilting skills by
seeing how you can "maximize your fat quarters!" Join us in the fun as we
challenge
Rules of the Game: 1. You must use 24 FQ's. It can be from a fabric line or a scrappy one from your stash. 2. You may use up to two additional fabrics in your quilts/projects. Three fabrics may be used in the twin size quilt. A third fabric will be allowed in one other quilt, but it must be limited to 1/2 yard. 3. ALL of the FQ's must be represented in each quilt/project. 4. We will assign you three different types of quilts you must get from these FQ's, you may do more, if there is fabric left. But you must do the first three. 5. Quilt One--must be a twin size or at least 60" x 80" (remember that you may use a third additional color in this quilt, no limit) This is due by April 1. If you cannot make the meeting, please send me a jpg of your quilt top. 6. Quilt Two--medallion style quilt. ANY type of medallion is acceptable, pieced or appliqued. NO size requirements. Due by May 6. 7. Quilt Three--applique quilt. No size requirements. May be pieced or appliqued. Due by June 3. 8. All other quilts that uses up the rest of your FQ's will be due by mid-August, or so. No firm date has been set yet. 9. You do not have to create your own designs, but please remember to give credit to the designer, if it's not your own. 10. Send me an email indicating you would like to play in the sandbox with us! We'd love to see what YOU can do.
Here is what I did in my last 24 FQ challenge with a friend. I used the "Girlfriends" line of fabric by Jennifer Paganelli. from "Nickel Quilts" by Speth/Thode 3.
sorry, didn't have a picture of the finished quilt, I ended up putting a white on white border on it. 6/7.
pieced baskets with fused handles--forgive me, I had to draw the line somewhere! Look for the "cut-outs" in a later quilt! I think I'll turn this into a pillow also I made 2 postcards and sent one to my friend that was doing the challenge with me. 12.
a pretty neat purse. (Pattern from "Making Quilts from your Stash" book by Lynn Edwards) 13. Oops--don't have a picture of this one. It's a little wall hanging of flowers made from the basket handle cutouts. At this point, I thought enough is enough--I could have gone on forever! But, I still had little tiny scraps and pieces of fabric and little slivers left, I HAD to use them! And to avoid getting downright obsessive (as if I hadn't already), here is my FINAL project and it used up the last little bit of 100% of my FQ's!!! NO WASTE! And there you go, I TOTALLY maximized my FQ's! What can YOU do? send me your pictures via email and I'll set up a page to show our progress. |
