News Flash!

Where do I begin?  I'm NOT pregnant! LOL  Just wanted to get that out of the way!  but here it is...

NO OPEN HOUSE 

After many hours of prayers/contemplating/pondering, I have decided to scale back my schedule for this session.  My family needs me. I need to take care of me so I can take care of them.

I came across this recently and it really never left me.  My rewards are huge when I'm able to help and share my knowledge with other quilters.  The tedious behind the scenes stuff are not always as rewarding. 

So that leaves me with..

the GOOD NEWS!  I will continue doing the Open Sews on one Saturday per month and one on Tuesdays.  Open Sews will now be from 9 AM to 4 PM, $15 and you can pay me that day.  No need to sign up ahead of time.  We'll put you wherever there is room!  I'm opening a few spots upstairs to accommodate a few more people.   As always, Saturday Open Sews are potluck. Bring some food to share and your own drink (I do have bottled water).

It's time to SIMPLIFY a bit.  Our lives get so packed and full, and that's not all bad.  But sometimes it gets overwhelming and we need to scale back and re-focus.  I'm hoping that by simplifying my life a little bit, helps you simplify yours as well!  No new patterns to buy, books to invest in, no new fabric to buy (good?--your call! LOL) and homework to do!  Instead, lets focus this time on getting some older things done and feel good about a clean slate.   I can't totally abandon all my quilt friends!  I'll still be here to cheer you on, give a bit of advice where needed and be your moral support.  I just won't lead you down the path of MORE projects to do. We'll wait until fall to do that! :)

In the meantime, gather up your projects, make a list (I know how hard that is to do--it's all in writing now!) and make a plan.  A plan of what you would like to get done and let's work on this together.

Samples are coming along....

Woo hoo!  After a brief hiatus to make a flying trip back home to Ohio, and then hubby came back with me to only make me work! We took down wallpaper in our TV room and then repainted.  Geez, not too fun of a vacation! LOL  It does look nice now though.  Now onto more fun stuff....

Well, to be more accurate, I'm working on cutting out fabric....to make kits for myself....to MAKE the samples!  I plan on taking these with me on my little winter getaway and plan to sew...sew...sew!

January 2012 Classes

Okay, so did you notice that I did not have an Open House in December? Or have one posted for early January?  It's a really tough time of year to get that done and since I am going to be a snowflake bird (cannot consider myself a snowbird if I only go south for one month) in late Jan and early Feb.  So,

I used an OSU T-shirt to make this. You can use whatever fabric you like.  If you would like me to embroider a hat, get me the fabric and thread a week BEFORE  the class.

 I'm looking forward to a fun Spring of quilts, trying to use charm packs, jellly rolls AND the new Accuquilt! I recently purchased one for the Studio and will allow any student to come and use it. Now we are trying to come up with quilts to take advantage of it.

The Bathing Suit--NQR

so this isn't even closely quilt related unless you figure that most of us quilter's have what's commonly known as 'quilter's spread', but I think any ....ahem... mature woman would appreciate this.

The Bathing Suit When I was a child in the 1960's the bathing suit for the mature figure was-boned, trussed and reinforced, not so much sewn as engineered. They were built to hold back and uplift and they did a good job. Today's stretch fabrics are designed for the prepubescent girl with a figure carved from a potato chip. The mature woman has a choice - she can either go up front to the maternity department and try on a floral suit with a skirt, coming away looking like a hippopotamus who escaped from Disney's Fantasia or she can wander around every run of the mill department store trying to make a sensible choice from what amounts to a designer range of florescent rubber bands. What choice did I have? I wandered around, made my sensible choice and entered the chamber of horrors known as the fitting room. The first thing I noticed was the extraordinary tensile strength of the stretch material. The Lycra used in bathing costumes was developed, I believe, by NASA to launch small rockets from a slingshot, which give the added bonus that if you manage to actually lever yourself into one, you are protected from shark attacks as any shark taking a swipe at your passing midriff would immediately suffer whiplash. I fought my way into the bathing suit, but as I twanged the shoulder strap in place, I gasped in horror - my boobs had disappeared! Eventually, I found one boob cowering under my left armpit. It took a while to find the other. At last I located it flattened beside my seventh rib. The problem is that modern bathing suits have no bra cups. The mature woman is meant to wear her boobs spread across her chest like a speed bump. I realigned my speed bump and lurched toward the mirror to take a full view assessment. The bathing suit fit all right, but unfortunately it only fit those bits of me willing to stay inside it. The rest of me oozed out rebelliously from top, bottom, and sides. I looked like a lump of play dough wearing undersized cling wrap. As I tried to work out where all those extra bits had come from, the prepubescent sales girl popped her head through the curtain, 'Oh, there you are,' she said, admiring the bathing suit. I replied that I wasn't so sure and asked what else she had to show me. I tried on a cream crinkled one that made me look like a lump of masking tape, and a floral two piece which gave the appearance of an oversized napkin in a serving ring. I struggled into a pair of leopard skin bathers with ragged frills and came out looking like Tarzan's Jane, pregnant with triplets and having a rough day. I tried on a black number with a midriff and looked like a jellyfish in mourning. I tried on a bright pink pair with such a high cut leg I thought I would have to wax my eyebrows to wear them. Finally, I found a suit that fit...a two-piece affair with a shorts style bottom and a loose blouse-type top. It was cheap, comfortable, and bulge-friendly, so I bought it. My  ridiculous search had a successful outcome, I figured. When I got home, I found a label which read -- 'Material might become transparent in water'. So, if you happen to be on the beach or near any other body of water this year and I'm there too, I'll be the one in cut-off jeans and a T-shirt! You'd better be laughing or rolling on the floor by this time. Life isn't about how to survive the storm, but how to dance in the rain.

just a laugh for the day--I'm still plugging away at my Mac lessons. I am doing the one on one sessions that Apple offers all new Mac users, which I'm fully taking advantage!  Sooo, not a whole lot of sewing time. Soon........

Welcome to my new site

Okay, this is totally an experiment. But what else is new?  I'll be in the process of switching over my other website and hopefully end up with a new, improved site. Okay, maybe not improved, but it will be new!

(pre-registration required as it is limited to 8 people--Cost $10)

Kquilt Bee: for those interested in learning the art of handquilting and the fellowship that happens in an old time quilting bee.  All are welome, bring your own project to work on.
